From Catering to Top Career
"I believe an “Old dog CAN learn new tricks!” “
Zoe Hall is currently studying for a career in web design. She has completed one and a half years of her course.
Before Zoe enrolled with Computeach, she was PA to a Quality Controls Manager for a catering firm. Zoe had decided on a change as she was unhappy in her job and wanted to have job satisfaction like her colleagues. She had only stayed in catering because she started as a part time chef and progressed through all departments after university. Zoe says “It was always just a job not a career.”
Whilst doing some IT work for previous employers, Zoe discovered that she had a flare for problem solving and training people to use databases, creating reports and using a computer. Fortunately, as Zoe had a degree in art, she could apply this to a course in web design. She had in fact already enrolled on a web design course at her local college but it wasn’t well organised and the course was stopped due to lack of students.
Zoe saw a TV advert for Computeach and thought “why not, I have nothing to lose!.” After receiving a DVD in the post, she called to arrange a face-to-face meeting with a Computeach sales advisor who talked through all possible options.
Zoe finds juggling work and home life difficult although she calls on help from the tutors if she needs support or explanations. Although she has not completed her web design qualification, Zoe has progressed up the IT career ladder. She is currently a freelancer for the same company she was with prior to enrolling with Computeach. Zoe is an IT consultant and an IT Project manager and helps with any other IT support.
To aid her studies, Zoe has managed to complete some work experience in web design with her current employer which she says is invaluable:
“I have found working with people in IT regardless of the job itself, are a fountain of knowledge and in my experience are more than happy to help.”
Zoe comments that:
“Starting this course has increased my IT knowledge 10 fold and I now work from home doing the hours I want to do, which is something I have always wanted. I only wish I did this sooner! “
Her advice to other students is:
“Go for it, but remember you will only get out what you put in. Don’t ever think that you can’t do something just because it’s new and you have never done something like this before. I believe an “Old dog CAN learn new tricks!” “
