After fifteen years as a steward in the RAF, Mark Fallows was unfulfilled and felt increasingly that his career offered him no prospects. With only a limited knowledge of computers but keen to develop his interest, Mark decided to retrain for a career in Information Technology.
"I used computers at home and in the workplace for word-processing and accounting, but knew nothing of the IT industry".
The IT industry is a constantly growing market place so therefore offers huge opportunities for those searching for a new career. The unsettled lifestyle in the forces, combined with being stationed abroad, meant that Mark was unable to follow traditional training routes.
"Distance learning meant that I could study where and when I wanted fitting my studies around my busy work commitments".
Mark was introduced to distance learning experts Computeach following a resettlement brief. He saw this as an opportunity to make important career changes and start his journey to a better life.
After only eight months of studying with Computeach, Mark gained his first job in IT with an international games company, designing programs to generate lottery scratch cards and phonecards.
The ex-RAF man is confident that although his own determination and hard work secured his position of employment, Computeach played a significant role in his career success: "I would not have had the knowledge or the confidence to apply for this job without the Computeach course behind me."
Mark now has more time to spend with his family, working in a job which is both fulfilling and well paid. "If I hadn't enrolled on the Computeach course I would still be in a job that I didn't enjoy."
Determined not to stop here, Mark is planning to continue his studies with Computeach to help him progress his IT career and move up in the computing industry: "I aim to progress up the ladder." His advice to those considering a change of career is simple: "If you're sure that this is your ambition, then go for it!"
