Supermarket chain Tesco's deal with Cable and Wireless could have a significant impact on the British broadband sector and could help increase access to high-speed communications in the near future, it has been claimed.
Chris Marling, editor of BroadbandGenie.co.uk, has suggested the agreement will bring a wide range of new opportunities to the UK market and will help increase the speed of broadband rollout across the country, resulting in more people hooking up to high-speed internet services.
Such a move will increase the demand for IT training courses to help people get online and cope with the new technology, learning not only how it can be best harnessed, but also how to keep themselves safe from security threats.
Mr Marling suggested the new arrangement could prove popular: "Broadband has been under the spotlight due to problems with speeds and service in particular, so a new player could benefit from this high level of consumer dissatisfaction as people look to switch."
Tesco's mobile phone arm, Tesco Mobile, was launched in 2003 in a joint venture with mobile telecoms firm O2.
