Search engine giant Google has announced it is to provide search results in real-time, in a move that could herald major changes for those with IT careers.
According to the company, it is to provide search results in a real-time format in order to integrate feeds from social networks such as Twitter, resulting in profound changes in search engine optimisation (SEO) for companies.
"For a company to control its message on Google it's important to have a presence on all elements which may feed into the search results page," said Sam Tilston, online marketing director at internet mail order company Zoombits.co.uk.
As a result, people in the IT industry specialising in SEO may be in demand over the months ahead as businesses seek to integrate their social media postings into an overall SEO strategy.
Google is the world's largest and most-used search engine and therefore any changes it makes to the way it ranks its searches need to be closely monitored by companies relying on SEO to build their business.
