SMEs urged to recycle IT equipment

15:58 23rd June 2011

Recycling IT equipment offers small businesses a number of benefits and such firms should consider re-using their products more often.

That is the view of Andrew Boddington, marketing director of regeneration service provider Return on IT, who pointed out that small companies do not always have the money to upgrade their systems.

Usually there is one person in the organisation who manages a few pieces of equipment "very well", he added.

"For medium to large organisations, the benefits are - once one or two pieces are coming to the end of their life - you don't want a mixed environment that you're trying to manage," Mr Boddington explained.

"It is a trade-off - managing a diverse set of equipment is a lot easier if all your equipment is of a certain type and make."

Companies are increasingly choosing to recycle their IT equipment as a result of legislation and changing attitudes towards the environment, the expert concluded.
