Online shopping 'set to soar'

Online shopping 'set to soar'

15:35 4th November 2009

More consumers are now confident about using the internet to carry out transactions and as a result the sector is set to boom over the coming months, it has been suggested.

Online retailing has always been beset by concerns surrounding security, but with many of those problems being addressed, a growing number of shoppers are now turning to their computers rather than the high street.

As a result, there could be a growth in the number of IT industry experts being recruited to the retail sector in order to develop websites and online offerings that will encourage more people to shop online.

"One thing that we are seeing more increasingly is consumers using the web not just to shop, but to resource and compare prices and do all their research," added David Smith, director of operations for IMRG.

Recent research carried out by the British Retail Consortium revealed consumer confidence both online and offline has risen to its highest level for 18 months.
