The UK's biggest online retailers have reported significantly high volumes of transactions for Monday December 7th, which analysts predict could be the busiest online shopping day so far recorded.
In news that appears to confirm the continuing trend for shoppers to buy goods over the internet, the BBC reports that retailers experienced higher demand online during Monday December 7th and most expect that to translate into record sales for the industry once the numbers are processed.
Amazon told the news provider that business had been "extremely busy" over the course of the day, as people gear up for Christmas by purchasing gifts online rather than by battling in busy high streets.
The growth of the online retail industry could encourage more people starting out in IT careers to consider moving into the retail sector, where there is likely to be increased demand for IT industry experts over the coming years.
In the US, record sales have already been set this year ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, which ushers in the start of the festive season in the country.
