Mobile broadband urged to improve

Mobile broadband urged to improve

15:25 26th November 2009

Mobile broadband suppliers may soon be offering new opportunities for IT careers as they attempt to win back disillusioned customers.

Independent broadband and mobile broadband comparison website Broadband Genie has suggested that many mobile broadband users may choose to discard existing services and instead use mobile web connections, such as services provided by Opera Mini, the mobile browser from Opera Software.

Chris Marling, editor at Broadband Genie, said he was concerned mobile broadband users would switch to phone-based web browsing because mobile companies are "letting down their customers with mobile broadband".

Such a move could result in more investment being made in the development of mobile broadband services and could lead to new employment opportunities in the sector.

Broadband Genie's latest mobile broadband speed test data showed that two-thirds of users have received speeds below one megabit per second this year - less than 15 per cent of the 'up to' speeds claimed by many mobile network operators.
