Jobseekers urged to 'control' social media profile

Jobseekers urged to 'control' social media profile

13:49 25th August 2011

People looking for jobs have been advised to keep a check on what they put on their public social media pages.

Charlie Ryan, director at Recruitment Queen and CMR Recruitment, said that many companies and agencies are looking at staff and candidates' social network profiles.

He explained organisations do this to ensure that media pages of the people they are hiring are what they expect them to be.

"[Jobseekers therefore] need to be using the social media sites in a professional way and discussing their careers online and [discussing] what they are looking for and what they are looking to achieve, rather than what they did on Saturday night," Mr Ryan added.

A recent report from Jobvite revealed that almost nine out of ten (89 per cent) of companies in the US would look at social networks to recruit staff.

Many recruiting departments have been using multiple networks to reach out to potential employees, the data suggested.
