Investing in broadband 'will reap rewards'

Funding superfast broadband technology will help a country to boost its overall economy, an expert has suggested.

Many governments are looking to invest in high-speed internet services in order to provide businesses and citizens with the technology they need to thrive and according to Edd Dawson, editor of broadband.co.uk, those countries will reap big rewards in the future.

"Countries that have a joined-up strategy are really going to reap the rewards," he said.

However, he warned that more needs to be done in the UK if Britain is to see the benefits of implementing the technology, pointing out that the current strategy is "a bit piecemeal".

His comments follow a recent report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which highlighted the fact that the UK is lagging behind other countries in terms of broadband speed.

Earlier this year, a report from Microsoft predicted the global economic recovery would be driven by the IT industry, meaning implementing new technology could be crucial to a country's chances of growing their economy in the months ahead.
