Young people who are out of work for more than six months could find a work placement subsidy helps them gain the IT training they need to secure a long-term job.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has welcomed the government's January Guarantee for 16 to 17-year-olds, which offers a learning place for those teenagers who are out of work.
But the group adds that the announcement does not go far enough and should include a work placement subsidy for 16 and 17-year-olds.
CIPD public policy adviser Gerwyn Davies commented that the announcement will not solve the problem of high youth unemployment.
"Giving young people education places and formal training opportunities is a laudable aim, and one we support," he added.
The CIPD recently published a guide entitled Internships That Work to help employers and staff make the most of internships.
