The British Computer Society (BCS) and the Service Desk Institute (SDI) have agreed to work together to improve IT careers.
By entering a partnership, the two bodies hope they can support computing careers and help people working in the sector get more from their jobs.
David Clarke, chief executive of the BCS, explained that by working with the SDI they can "help promote best practice, work together to raise standards of professionalism and increase understanding of the work of this sector of the IT profession".
Having signed a memoranda of understanding the pair want to focus their efforts on career development opportunities and changes to help people in the IT industry become better qualified.
"It is not only IT training employees in the sector need," observed the founder and chairman of the SDI, Howard Kendall.
"It's crucial that all IT staff possess business and 'soft' relationship and communication skills to complement their technical skills and qualifications," he said.
A recent report by Sir Jim Rose recommended children in primary schools be taught IT skills because they are so computer literate.
