Those in IT careers who have given thought to going it alone might be interested to hear of a milestone passed by the Prince's Trust.
The trust's Technology Leadership Group (TLG) has announced it has passed the £5 million mark in funds raised for entrepreneurs.
Created in 2002, the group has helped almost 2,000 young professionals to start up their own businesses and has secured a further £1 million in support from Capgemini, Computing reports.
Richard Holway, chairman of the TLG, said the body was "delighted" to have reached this landmark.
"The trust's Business Programme gives disadvantaged young people a chance to become tomorrow's entrepreneurs and reaching the £5 million mark is a significant achievement," he added.
Last week, one of the IT industry's most successful entrepreneurs - Bill Gates - announced he would be stepping down from day-to-day duties at Microsoft Corporation.
