Remote working is improving customer responses and helping firms through difficult times, says business connectivity provider Star.
The firm has noted that flexible working practices give staff more freedom to react to enquiries from customers.
Martino Corbelli, marketing director at Star, said any concerns about security issues can be addressed by having the correct procedures and software in place.
He explained: "Any remote working solution should have security embedded within it so that there is no difference in security between operating at a desk in the office or working from home."
Workers in IT careers are often at the forefront of new working practices brought on by developments in computing.
By working from home organisations can only benefit from "improved efficiencies, cutting costs, better customer response times and improved employee motivation," Mr Corbelli went on.
Security portal Help Net Security has recommended companies instruct their employees to remove confidential data from their laptops and to keep if on a network drive instead.
