A recruitment expert has advised job seekers to invest in themselves in order to get the job they want.
Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, recommended white-collar workers spend a bit of money on getting the right advice to improve their career change prospects.
He said: "I think it is worth taking someone else's professional opinion at a modest cost and having proper career counselling."
An example he offered was taking a CV to a professional.
The reason behind this is to make the CV stand out. Mr Huxham advised people consider what will make them stand out to a potential employer on their CV.
Having the right IT training could be a great way to have a job hunter stand out from the crowd.
Mr Huxham's comments follow news that the number of white-collar workers claiming Jobseekers' Allowance has increased 154 per cent in the last year to 118,700 people.
