Apple's new operating system (OS) Snow Leopard launches tomorrow in direct competition to Microsoft's planned Windows upgrade.
The latest incarnation is designated as OSX 10.6 and according to Apple, is more an upgrade of its existing Leopard OS.
New features include 64-bit system applications, QuickTime X and full support for Microsoft Exchange Server.
By offering 64-bit support the company claims it is making its operating system "completely ready for whatever computing enhancements might arrive in the future".
It has been reported that Apple's chief executive officer Steve Jobs is now heavily involved in the advertising and marketing of a new touch screen tablet PC.
Students on IT courses will be aware of the continued rivalry between Apple and Microsoft, exemplified recently in a series of TV averts which stared comedy duo Mitchell and Webb.
Whichever operating system people in IT careers prefer, there are always opportunities for them to further their job prospects by attending IT courses.
