More opportunities for senior IT jobs?

Senior IT jobs are more in demand in the IT industry following the credit crunch, according to one expert.

An increasing trend for outsourcing and offshoring IT jobs due to the credit crunch has meant a lack of opportunities for low level IT staff but a greater chance of employment for those with experienced IT careers, Computing.co.uk reports.

Philippe Robeyns, Societe Generale's global head of investment banking services told computing.co.uk: "We expect to see a consolidation of technologies supporting the financial IT industry, so people involved in managing the provision of these services, including outsourcing, should be fine."

With less low level IT jobs, senior IT staff will be given added responsibility to manage company projects.

David Roberts, chief executive of the Corporate IT Forum: "Given the reliance of the UK on financial services, there will be an immense demand for professionals within those areas, so it is possible that the industry will be creating new jobs or even re-training internal staff to meet that demand."

A survey by market researcher Celre revealed that salaries for people with IT jobs are at their highest for three years.
