Workers are doing more to help their employers weather the storm of the recession, according to a study from insolvency trade body R3.
Many people are aware that their jobs could be threatened by the recession and so more employees are agreeing to measures such as shifting work patterns, longer hours and pay freezes in order to minimise the pressure on their companies.
Employees could also pursue regular IT training courses to ensure they keep up to date with the latest developments and have a competitive skill set that makes them indispensable to their company.
Leon Teasdale, a spokesman for the Employment Law Advisory Service, said: "People are aware that they have to do more outside the box to keep their employment."
Many companies may have to improve their work practices once the economy enters recovery, as nearly 40 per cent of employees have breached unspoken loyalty contracts with them over the past 12 months, according to figures from the Hay Group.
