When making career choices, men and women in IT are motivated by significantly different factors, a new study has revealed.
The survey of nearly 2,000 graduates, conducted by the career development organisation (CRAC), showed that although both sexes were keen to join the sector, research indicated that men are attracted to technical projects while women are drawn to study the impact of IT.
The survey also disclosed that the main concern of both men and women about the IT industry was the perception that it would be a boring career.
Robin Mellors-Bourne, development director at CRAC, said: "Over 60 per cent of non-computing students cited boring work as the main reason they would not join the sector.
"Employers should be able to counter that kind of perception. We found that very few of the students hold negative perceptions about the IT profession or its people."
Jennifer Mowat, director of BT Tradespace revealed earlier this month that she believed that social networking tools will encourage more women to consider a career in IT.
