Hoteliers believe that spending on improved web design will result in a strong return on investment this year, according to a survey.
Hospitality eBusiness Strategies' (HeBS) 2010 benchmark survey on hotel internet marketing budget planning and best practices found that, along with web design and redesign, hotel owners believe that search engine optimisation and Web 2.0 strategies will generate the best returns.
Those considering taking web design courses will note with interest that in 2009 56.3 per cent of respondents felt an improved website was the most effective online marketing format, increasing to 61.7 per cent in 2010.
"In the most recent HeBS benchmark survey, results showed that hoteliers believed website design and Web 2.0 initiatives produced the best results and highest returns," said Max Starkov, chief ebusiness strategist at HeBS.
"HeBS is in full agreement and designs and conceptualises every website and multi-channel marketing campaign with this in mind," he added.
Graham Charlton, UK editor of Econsultancy's digital marketing blog, said that restaurant websites should always include clear contact details, space for customer reviews and quality photographs, but should avoid using over the top flash Adobe Flash designs as this can affect usability.
