IT workers begin to e-lance

14:33 23rd July 2008

The current economic gloom has led to a number of IT workers in full-time employment taking on electronic freelancing work, according to a freelance services provider.

PeoplePerHour.com has revealed that it currently has 3,500 people offering work in at least one IT-related category, with 35 per cent also in full time employment - with these figures rising every month.

The employment website blamed increasing consumer inflation as the main factor pushing IT workers to seek ways to supplement their regular income.

Xenios Thrasyvoulou, PeoplePerHour.com founder, said: "On regular salaries skilled professionals are struggling to make ends meet.

"It's little wonder increasing numbers of them are harnessing their experience and skills to offer freelance services outside office hours."

Last month, a report from the Economic and Social Research Council claimed that IT security lapses could adversely affect the economy.ADNFCR-1667-ID-18697005-ADNFCR
