Funding for IT training within the education sector is likely to be scarce in the foreseeable future, an expert has said.
According to Miles Berry, senior lecturer in ICT education at the University of Roehampton and vice-chair of Naace, the ICT Association, funding is expected to be "tight" over the next few years, resulting in a situation that could pose problems when the existing kits are due for renewal.
He pointed out that with depleted technology budgets, schools will have to make sure that they are careful with their budgets in order to obtain the best value from their spending.
Educational institutes were also urged to make the most of free web-based services in order to further cut costs.
"Google's Apps for Education and open source software go some way to help here, but there's also lots more schools can do to make use of the expertise they have within their communities for innovation, professional development and support," Mr Berry commented.
Howard Hall, managing director of DTP Group, recently suggested that a "comprehensive IT strategy" can help organisations reduce costs and save energy.
