The stereotypes that many people have in their mind about IT jobs are becoming increasingly outdated, it has been claimed.
According to Amy Dobson, writing for the San Francisco Chronicle recently, the idea of an individual constantly hunched over their computer screen, speaking only in technical jargon will soon become obsolete.
She maintains that IT jobs will increasingly require people who have a good understanding of computer systems but who are also aware of how their activities impact their employers activities as a whole.
"They [It professionals] certainly need to be aware of the ever-changing trends in the industry, but they also need to be tuned into the changing needs of their colleagues," Ms Dobson explained.
Last year, the European Commission warned businesses that they need to attract more women into IT jobs in order to avoid a serious skills gap in the industry in a few years time.
