The IT industry will help lead the world out of recession, according to a survey carried out by analyst company IDC, on behalf of computing giant Microsoft.
The study predicts that the global IT industry could contribute 5.8 million jobs over the next four years, while generating $535 billion (£334 billion) in revenues this year alone.
Such investment could encourage many more people to take up IT training to get into the sector and take advantage of the new job opportunities that the IT industry could create over the coming years.
"Continued innovation and investment in information technology will help jump-start recovery from the current recession and will significantly contribute to the growth of employment and new businesses," explained Robert D Atkinson, founder and president of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation.
As the UK continues to struggle with recession, a survey from the IT Job Board has suggested that many people in the British IT industry could head abroad to find better paid jobs and lower costs of living.
