New staff are still in demand in the IT industry, a new report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Technology Sector group has indicated.
According to the document, demand for IT labour rose four per cent in the last quarter, while IT skills needs expanded by ten per cent.
The ratio of supply and demand in IT jobs now stands at 1.5 applications per position.
On top of this, there are 60,000 unemployed IT professionals and 68,000 employed jobseekers vying for 86,000 positions.
Employers find it particularly difficult to find systems developers and architects, as well as .NET and SQL SVR specialists, the report notes.
REC Technology Chair Jeff Brooks said: "These results show that the demand within the sector continues to grow and return to good health.
"IT systems are clearly seen as tools that can help drive growth and help reduce cost across the enterprise and we expect to see this growth maintained."
He added that the new government could cut costs and streamline operations by investing more in the IT industry.
REC is the representative body for the UK's private recruitment and staffing industry, worth around £27 billion.
