Candidates are now beginning to use social media such as micro-blogging site Twitter to find job vacancies, a recruitment consultant has said.
James Swift, director and founder of online hiring firm Beyond Interactive, noted that this trend is particularly visible in the IT sector.
He added that this is the same for companies looking to find suitable employees.
"If you've got a job that you want advertised on job boards or in the press, you have to wait – you have to get it copy-written and stuff – whereas you can actually post it onto Twitter straight away," Mr Swift explained.
"The candidates that are following that company will find out about the role a lot quicker."
Earlier this month, recruitment advertising company reed.co.uk announced that it will start promoting vacancies through Twitter and professional networking website LinkedIn.
This service will be provided free of charge to recruiters using Reed to advertise open positions.
