IT industry news: Cloud computing 'creating new job titles'

20:00 3rd January 2012

New titles for IT jobs are emerging as more companies adopt cloud computing on a large scale, industry experts have claimed.

Al Delattre, global industry lead for technology at recruitment firm Korn/Ferry International, told Computerworld.com that firms are starting to hire professionals who can oversee a complete cloud strategy.

This has led to the creation of new job titles such as cloud transformation officer and director of cloud transformation.

"This position is like being a conductor of an orchestra. It's a series of 500 projects over seven years. You have to make sure it works and it's sequenced," Mr Delattre explained.

According to the publication, other industry developments such as mobile computing and social media will also result in new job titles for people with IT careers.

Titles such as chief social media strategist and new media coordinator are expected to become more common as companies make their social media projects more complex and ambitious.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation's Technology Sector Group recently announced that its members expect demand for staff with IT skills to increase in 2012.
