IT industry news: Businesses believe IT training can boost performance

16:54 19th November 2010

Prominent UK business leaders believe graduates with advanced technology skills can help improve the performance of their organisations, according to a survey.

Research by ESRI UK, a leading geographic information systems (GIS) provider, found that 82 per cent of businesses believe the perfect manager should have an excellent knowledge of how to run a business as well as the technology behind it.

Those considering IT training or IT courses will be interested to discover that of the 200 business leaders surveyed 57 per cent of businesses are looking for candidates with advanced technology skills.

Richard Waite, managing director of ESRI UK, said: "Business leaders across the UK are telling us that they need more employees who can help them maximise key technologies such as GIS technology, but who also understand their business needs in these tough economic times."

The UK's largest IT graduate employer, FDM Group, is to double its graduate intake to 1,000 in 2011, creating more opportunities for those looking for employment in the IT sector.
