IT employers face grilling from candidates

14:06 7th August 2008

Employers increasingly have to sell themselves to IT candidates as prospective job hunters become increasingly demanding, a recruitment group has claimed.

Computer People conducted a survey of 5,000 UK IT professionals and found that 70 per cent of respondents cited quality of a working environment as a highly important differentiator when choosing employment, while 75 per cent said that they valued strong working relationships.

Nick Dettmar of Computer People believes that these findings illustrate the increasing importance of adapting to the requirements of staff.

He said: "IT workers are now being seen as the people who can make innovative, progressive stuff happen, and they are more highly regarded for it. They're not just the 'beards in the basement' anymore."

Last month, a survey of 500 European executives, by Harvey and Nash, revealed that developing personal contacts is still seen as the most important job search tool - despite the emergence of social networking.
