Govt announces IT contracts worth £500m

10:56 19th August 2009

The government has announced it is to give £500 million worth of IT consultancy work to suppliers.

Firms that will benefit from the deals include Atos Origin, Accenture and Fujitsu, ComputerworldUK.com has reported.

By winning the contracts, the firms may have helped secure the future of their employees looking to enjoy IT careers.

The deals are know as framework agreements, they last for three years and hope to reduce the cost to central and local government of buying services as and when they are needed.

The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has announced it is adopting a new procurement model, which should help minimise any disruption caused if a provider has financial difficulty.

According to the programme director at the OGC, David Shields, the new approach was developed thanks to "feedback, lessons learned and the changing operating environments", CIO.co.uk has reported.ADNFCR-1667-ID-19319527-ADNFCR
