Energy Saving Trust calls for more skills training

10:17 2nd June 2009

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has called for more opportunities for people to gain skills training for the burgeoning energy efficiency sector, reports businessgreen.com.

The body wants to be able to offer more training for specialist professions ranging from plumbing to building so that a greater number of people can find job opportunities in housing retrofits, which is worth nearly £25 billion a year.

According to an EST poll, the majority of close to 300 surveyed skilled professionals do not feel they can offer their customers reliable advice on home efficiency issues, but training could change this, while it could also inspire others to pursue a career change to the sector.

Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the EST, told the website: "Until tradespeople have the knowledge, training and skills to be able to offer this expertise as second nature then they will be building in the dark."

In related training news, Lander Associates has partnered with Euro Lander Appointments to provide training programmes in Britain and Europe, according to Recruiter.
