Over a fifth of employers must give new workers additional training due to shortfalls in literacy and numeracy, it has been revealed.
In news that may interest individuals looking to take IT courses, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) reports that four in ten employers who took on adult workers in the past year had to offer them some kind of remedial IT training, the Financial Times reports.
According to CBI director of education and skills Susan Anderson, the IT training shortfall among school leavers is caused in part by poor literacy.
Emphasising the importance of IT courses, Ms Anderson highlighted the shrinking low-skills jobs market.
"If you haven't got those key basic skills, you're really going to find it difficult to maintain your position in the labour market," she told the news source.
In related news, figures released in the Professional Talent Spotlight Report from recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark recently indicated that the pick-up in mergers and acquisitions activity in the UK may lead to an increased demand for workers with specialist IT training.
