An Israeli-designed computer using DNA has begun to solve basic puzzles, it has been reported.
One of the scientists leading the team, Professor Shapiro, told BBC News the computer uses a robotic system to collect its data, which it then represents in molecules.
The system is capable of demonstrating an answer through DNA strands that glow green.
Professor Shapiro noted that the technology is currently limited to only basic applications: "Of course when the examples are simple, as in today's logic program, one can pre-compute the answer with pencil and paper."
As workers in IT careers may be aware, computing power doubles every 18 months, according to Moore's Law.
Should this correlation continue, people who retrain will go on to use increasingly powerful and capable machines.
