CIPD: Redundancies could continue

CIPD: Redundancies could continue

16:10 6th July 2009

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) there could be more job losses even after we enter recovery.

Dr John Philpott, chief economist and public policy director for CIPD, has said that even if the economy makes just a small turn for the better "they (companies) may find that they still have to make job cuts in the future over the course of the next year or so".

The CIPD reviewed calls it received in the second quarter of this year and revealed only a one per cent reduction in those asking for advice on making staff unemployed.

Speaking about the organisation's predictions for 2010, Mr Philpott said: "We are hoping that the first part of the year will turn out to have been the worst, but a big indication is that redundancies will stay at a fairly high level for the rest of this year."

Ensuring you have the appropriate expertise to remain competitive has never been more important, which is even more reason to consider computer training that brings your skills up-to-date.

According to the REC/KPMG Report on Jobs released on June 3rd, there is a shortage of workers with general IT and business intelligence skills.
