An industry expert has warned those looking for a career change not to lower their standards too much.
Joe McDermott, the chief executive officer of Interviewgold.com, told HR magazine that if people apply for jobs they are over-qualified for they may face rejection.
He said: "Employers are reluctant to employ them as they fear they will leave as soon as something better comes up."
The comments follow research from the skills training website that 85 per cent of jobseekers would apply for jobs they are over-qualified for.
In addition, 44 per cent said they would accept a lower salary and 28 per cent said they would do a career change in order to get a job.
Job hunters might want to consider doing IT or computer courses to help them find a new career.
According to Here Comes the Boss - a career advice website Interviewgold.com decided to conduct the survey after it was reported that a £14,000 bin man's job received 238 applications.
