Apple computers has announced strong sales but denied it was interested in following competitors and producing a netbook computer.
The US firm has defied sales predictions and sold 1.75 million notebook computers during the last quarter, up 13 per cent on last year's figures.
Analysts have predicted IT spending will fall as the recession continues. Forrester said people in IT careers will witness US spending fall 3.1 per cent and computer equipment sales drop by 6.8 per cent this year.
According to Apple's chief operating officer Timothy Cook, a price reduction on its pro models led to an "acceleration of sales".
Despite not generating the market share of machines built around Microsoft's Windows platform, the Apple range has a loyal following among people in programming careers.
Known for their built-in firewalls and innovative user interfaces, sales of the company's computers have been boosted by the popularity of its iPhone and iPod products.
Steve Jobs, chief executive, commented: "We're making our most innovative products ever and our customers are responding."
