"Teachers still don't know how to use" VLEs

09:35 4th February 2009

According to teachers.tv, the use of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) in classrooms is being hampered as "teachers still don't know how to use them".

Andrew Bethell, chief executive and creative director at teachers.tv, said that the potential for VLEs to become integral to classroom learning was being undermined by a lack of knowledge as to how to apply them in the right way.

A range of new products are available to help enhance traditional teaching methods by maximising the use of interactive white boards and making computer technology more widespread.

Addressing British Educational and Training Technology 2009, Mr Bethell said: "The problem is that teachers still don't know how to use them so the take up has been much less than everybody would have predicted."

Computer training could potentially help teachers and other education professionals to learn more about the technology available to them and feel more at ease with it.

The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency recently created a Next Generation Learning Charter intended to make the use of technology in schools more widespread.
