iPad cost unlikely to 'dent' UK sales

18:33 14th May 2010

The higher cost of the iPad in the UK compared to the US will not prevent Britons from buying Apple's new tablet computer, James Holland, editor of the gadget news website Electricpig.co.uk, has said.

"With Apple's solid fan base I'd be extremely surprised to see any dent in sales," Mr Holland explained.

The device will cost people in the UK between £80 and £100 more than it does for US consumers, it was widely reported last week.

Mr Holland described Apple's new tablet, which went on sale in the UK on May 10th, as being "a little pricier over here, all things considered", adding that "gadget fans in the UK almost always seem to be stung by higher prices".

He explained, however, that this is often "simply because they haven't factored in US sales tax or VAT on this side of the pond" when calculating the price of US consumer electronic products.
