Those who toil away in the office hoping that their dedication will be rewarded may be interested to learn the results of a new survey that suggests their efforts are for nothing.
A survey carried out by T-Mobile found that 59 per cent of businesses do not consider the number of hours an employee works to be reflective of their job-performance.
Increased job insecurity caused by the current economic malaise has prompted staff to spend longer hours than they would prefer at work.
One solution is for businesses to give their employees IT training so they are able to work remotely and do not spend their entire waking life in the office.
Christine Edwards, professor of human resource management at KBS, commented: "During any economic climate, but particularly during a downturn, it is in the interest of businesses to ensure they are keeping their staff happy and productive.
"Employers need to ensure they offer the best mobile technology and support to make things as easy as possible for their mobile workforce."
Recent research by The IT Job Board has revealed a significant skills gap in the IT sector.
