'Women could be inspired by Ada Lovelace Day'

13:27 24th March 2009

Women in the UK could be inspired by Ada Lovelace Day to pursue an IT career, according to womenintechnology.co.uk.

Named after one of the world's first female computer programmers, the campaign is intended to celebrate the contributions of women in technology by encouraging people across the world to blog their thoughts.

Maggie Berry, director of womenintechnology.co.uk, the career development and networking portal for women working in the technology sector, said that the campaign could encourage more women to seek computer training courses and a career change.

Ms Berry said: "There are lots of different things to inspire women in technology and this is one of them. I like the idea of having a day [dedicated to it]."

She added that the sheer number of female bloggers around the world could help to put female achievement in technology front and centre through the course of the day (March 24th).

The blog Findingada.com reveals that over 1,500 people have pledged to write a posting about women's achievements in technology through the course of the day.
