Wireless networks must be both secured and easy to access, says Brocade

Wireless networks must not only be secured but also accessible, according to Simon Pamplin, systems engineer pre-sales manager for the UK and Ireland for Brocade.

"You've got to make ease of access to the right people as seamless as possible," he said, explaining the double-edged nature of securing mobile networks: making them accessible to the right people, but inaccessible to the wrong ones.

According to Mr Pamplin, people securing their networks must be in a position to control both known and unknown threats as well as "provide remote capabilities and secure them in the same way as though users were connected to a secure network within their own controlled campus".

His views emerged as Google responded to issues with its level of Wi-Fi data collection in Germany. The company’s Streetview cars accidentally collected information, known as Payload Data, which comprised the information being sent over the networks.

Research from the Wi-Fi Alliance said that more than 475 million Wi-Fi enabling chipsets were shipped last year.
