Web giant Microsoft has agreed to give European Internet Explorer users the option to choose an alternative browser from the beginning of March.
Dave Heiner, Microsoft's vice president and deputy general counsel, wrote in a blog post that the software update choice will come automatically for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 customers.
The alternative browsers that will be offered to Windows users are Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera.
Mr Heiner added that "users who get the choice screen will be free to choose any browser or stick with the browser they have, as they prefer,."
Microsoft's announcement follows a legal agreement between the company and Europe's Competition Commission in December 2009.
In other news, The release of Windows Phone 7 Series for mobile phones is a huge step forward for Microsoft, according to Pete Cunningham of research firm Canalys.
