Windows 7 has helped the brand recover, says PC Pro

The launching of Windows 7 has boosted the reputation of Microsoft's operating system following the disappointing reception of its predecessor, Windows Vista, according to Barry Collins, features and online editor at PC Pro.

Mr Collins said that the system's latest version has "turned Windows around", noting that it has "gone down very well with consumers" and has prompted a rise in PC sales, especially over the Christmas period.

"Despite a lot of the negativity around Windows that came from Windows Vista, [Windows 7 has] turned Windows around to some extent and reignited the Windows market," he added.

His comments came as Microsoft announced that Windows revenue in the first quarter of 2010 increased 28 per cent compared with the same quarter a year earlier, boosted by demand for Windows 7.

The company said that over ten per cent of all PCs across the world are running Windows 7 today, making the operating system by far the fastest selling in history.
