'Window to the web could replace PCs'

14:41 4th March 2009

Having a window through which the internet can be accessed could soon replace the need for a PC, according to business IT company ThinkGrid.

Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of the company, said that consumers will begin to use different types of computer hardware and that "convenience computing" and web surfing will become more normal.

He went on to say that by using a cloud server, people will only need a simple window with which to access the internet.

Mr Lovell said: "The trend will change and people will start getting things that will just allow them to connect into things centrally and then do their job and do their work and reach their applications and their data."

More people may choose to pursue programming courses to ensure they stay up-to-date with the latest developments.

A study from Gartner has revealed that shipments of PCs are forecast to drop by nearly 12 per cent over the course of this year.
