Web-User Magazine: Better ICT infrastructure needed in UK

10:12 17th February 2009

More investment is needed in order to deliver better information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure in the UK, according to Web-User Magazine.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor at the website, said that Britain was in danger of falling behind other European nations as well as the United States and the Far East if investment was not stepped up in the UK in the near future.

Next-generation broadband has already been implemented in many countries around the world and the UK risks losing its competitive economic edge in the global community unless recent plans become a swift reality.

Mr Camm-Jones said: "While Digital Britain does cover a lot of these areas, it is still only a report and needs to be acted upon. Fine words only go so far - what we require is action, and soon."

Rapid investment in widespread next-generation networks in the UK could encourage more people to seek computer training to familiarise themselves with the technology, while it could also facilitate home learning.

The government recently set out plans to provide every home in Britain with a web connection within the next few years.
