The prospect of a looming recession has prompted businesses to overhaul their IT systems, says the National Computing Centre (NCC).
Pressing concerns about the volatility of the economy and the need for businesses to cut costs in order to survive an impending recession has made many companies look into the ways in which their IT systems can help them achieve this.
Michael Dean, group marketing manager at the NCC, commented: "Many organisations will use the current situation as an opportunity to make significant changes, if they can see cost saving opportunities."
He added that businesses should endeavour to keep their choice of IT systems flexible because technological advances and competition are likely to drive down costs intermittently.
A report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 'IDC Predictions 2009: An Economic Pressure Cooker Will Accelerate the IT Industry Transformation', revealed that before the credit crunch took hold, Software as a Service (Saas) growth in 2009 was predicted to be 31 per cent.
