UK broadband system 'will need to be replaced'

People looking for IT jobs may be interested to hear of one expert's opinion that the UK's broadband system will need to be replaced sometime in the future.

Edd Dawson of broadband.co.uk claimed that there is a limit to the speed that can be generated by the incumbent copper wire system and as such "the UK needs to start moving to the next level soon".

He said that it is difficult to ascertain how serious the situation is at present, but pointed to evidence showing that "media streaming usage has increased dramatically and average speeds have dropped at the same time".

Slow broadband speeds ranked first in a top ten list of broadband annoyances recently compiled by BroadbandChoices.co.uk.

The UK Broadband Speedtest Results for October, measured by broadband.co.uk, revealed that AOL was the worst for this, with average download speed clocking in at 1.986Mbps - 1.339Mbps below the national average.
