UK SMBs 'leaders in technology'

The UK's small to medium businesses (SMBs) are leaders in evaluating emerging technologies and recognising the benefits they bring, according to research by a global IT trade association.

CompTIA surveyed IT decision makers in over 520 businesses and discovered that two-thirds of UK SMBs are 'constantly' evaluating new technologies, compared with just 51 per cent in the US and 39 per cent in Canada.

In addition, 52 per cent of the UK SMBs are convinced that new technology is critical to staying ahead of the competition, in contrast to just 45 per cent in the US.

Matthew Poyiadgi, CompTIA's European vice president, believes that UK businesses are significantly ahead of the game in regards to emerging IT.

He said: "This is largely due to their employees. Nearly three-quarters of UK SMBs say that their IT staff are on top of new technologies.

"In the US and Canada approximately half have the same confidence in their people."

Earlier this month, the European Union proposed to widen a deal that ensures global free trade for IT goods to include new types of hardware.
