Britain's efforts to compete in the global IT industry are being hampered by a failure to deliver a high standard of broadband infrastructure across the country, it has been suggested.
A new report from networking giant Cisco has revealed that the UK is ranked 25th out of 66 countries for the quality of its broadband networks.
The results suggest the UK is lagging behind many countries in terms of its delivery of IT services, meaning companies are unable to compete on the global stage because their IT infrastructure is insufficient.
Meanwhile, individuals looking to improve their skills through IT training may not be able to access the top facilities needed to enhance the workforce and boost the country's IT industry.
However, the survey also predicted that the UK would improve its IT infrastructure over the years ahead, so that it would be able to meet the needs of the future.
The government has announced plans to boost broadband coverage across the UK to ensure that every internet connection is running at two megabits per second or faster by 2012.
