Apple announced earlier this week that it sold more than 300,000 iPads on the new tablet computer's first day of sale.
According to Paddy Smith, deputy editor at Stuff.tv, there are "two sides" to first day sales of the device.
Initial sales are encouraging as they are "30,000 more than the original iPhone sold on the first day", with the iPad representing "much better value" compared to the original iPhone, Mr Smith said.
However, he added that the figure can also be seen as "slightly disappointing", because the new tablet computer is "much more affordable as a piece of gear".
Mr Smith cited the fact that Apple published the sales figures of iPad so quickly suggested that the electronics giant is "happy" with them.
Earlier this week, technology blog TechCrunch said that there have been a series of complaints on the Apple support website reporting Wi-Fi problems on the new device.
